Across the world, infectious disease management is changing within the animal productions industry, with many looking to good biosecurity plans, combined with veterinary medicine, as a way of working to prevent the spread and entry of pathogenic microorganisms.
In any facility where animals are kept, not only within animal production, studies continue to raise awareness of the importance of biosecurity and it’s beneficial implications on the health and welfare of animals, as well as reducing the spread of infections diseases amongst livestock and companion animals.
This book is the first compilation of both aspects of biosecurity practices, and specific & practical information on the application of the biosecurity measures in different animal production and animal housing settings. Starting with a general introductory chapter on the epidemiology of infectious diseases before moving into the general principles of biosecurity. It also includes specific topics including Rodent & Incest control, cleaning & disinfecting, hygeine and the decontamination of feed, drinking water & air.
This book is targeted towards farm and animal facility managers, consultants, and animal caretakers, as well as veterinarians and anyone with an interest in the prevention of diseases in animals. Academics and students will also benefit from this book.

His main research interests are quantitative epidemiology and control of zoonoses with a specific emphasis on antimicrobial resistance and antimicrobial use in animal production as well as the prevention of epidemic and endemic diseases with a focus on the application of biosecurity measures.
Prof Dr. Filip Van Immerseel is professor at the Department of Pathology, Bacteriology and Avian Diseases at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of Ghent University in Belgium. Being a scientist with a research group on host-bacterium interactions in animals, he has specific interest in prophylaxis of infectious diseases. His group already published over 175 international papers on intestinal health and diseases in production animals and is involved in a variety of research projects on alternatives to antibiotics. He is lecturer of Biosecurity and Hygiene for veterinary students.
